DodgerCut

The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Atlanta Braves in tonight's HotCut.  Walker Buehler starts for the 31-31 Dodgers.  Brandon McCarthy pitches for the 36-26 Braves.  McCarthy, you will recall, pitched for the Dodgers from 2015-2017, though he made only 29 starts across that three-year span.  This season for Atlanta he has posted a 1.50 WHIP with 52 strikeouts against 19 walks over 63 and 1/3 innings.  Buehler has started eight games this season for Los Angeles, bolstering a rotation that is currently without Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill and Kenta Maeda.  Buehler has made eight starts and posted a sterling 1.02 WHIP while striking out 50 batters and walking only 11 across 46 innings (eight starts).  Not bad! Tonight's game will start at 19:10 Pacific daylight in Chavez Ravine.

Reyes HotCut

Franmil?  Dennys?  Jo-Jo? No, we're talking about Alex Reyes for today's HotCut.  He makes his return to the major league mound after suffering an elbow injury and undergoing Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2017. by Corn Farmer on Flickr Reyes was sensational on a minor league rehab assignment this May, recording 44 strikeouts in 23 innings while allowing seven hits and seven walks. He will take the ball in mere moments! He faces the Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee in a 12:10 central daylight start.  Junior Guerra will pitch for Milwaukee. ReyesCut In the first, Reyes allowed a Yelich single, picked him off; recorded a couple of Ks and the inning was over.  Now Reyes himself is out on strikes.  After one-and-a-half there is no score in the 'Cut. Looking @ the League I want to use this blog as a place to remember.  What was happening in baseball late May 2018?  I see that Michael Brantley has a hit today.  He is a hit machine.  His average is .3

BronxCut

It's already top five in a BronxCut on Memorial Day.  The Houston Astros got a three-run homer from their fill-in at first base, J.D. Davis.  They lead the game 4-0.  Justin Verlander has pitched four innings for Houston, allowing zero runs on one hit and four strikeouts.  His ERA lay at 1.03. For the Yankees, Domingo Germán has pitched fairly well—despite the home run—through five innings, allowing four hits and one walk against six strikeouts.  Gleyber Torres, moved up to fifth in the batting order, so far has the Yankees' only hit. That's all I've got today, folks... I'm headed now across the Missouri River (after already having crossed the Mississippi earlier today) for backyard BBQ, fun and Cardinals baseball.  It's record heat in the St Louis area today, 91° already and looking at 95°.  Somebody, point me to the nearest waterfall...

Kluber-KeuchelCut

At 11:40 daylight central I received, via FedEx, a rare and rustic stone tablet.  The boustrophedon text was difficult to decipher but I am prepared to release a preliminary rough translation: Kluber-Keuchel rematch P.S. HotCut There it is folks.  An eleventh commandment?  I wouldn't go so far.  But if you find yourself in Cleveland tonight at 18:10 central you might do well to buy a ticket and set down to watch a little thing called the HotCut. Corey Kluber, Cleveland hurler, enters the game with a 0.84 WHIP and 71 strikeouts in 72 1/3 IP.  Dallas Keuchel, pitching for Houston, will toe the rubber sporting a 1.14 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 63 innings of work.

ClevelandCut

As of 12:29 central daylight, there is no word of a 'Cut.  If it were to arrive it would drive up in this car: At 12:35 central daylight, the you're-not-gonna-believe-what turned the corner and announced itself as being from Cleveland.  Let's take a look here, who we got?  When's this thing start? Astros at Indians, 17:10 central daylight start in Cleveland, Ohio.  For the Astros, it's Charlie Morton who carries a 0.93 WHIP with 70 strikeouts in 55 2/3 IP.  For the Indians it's Mike Clevinger, who carries a 1.16 WHIP and fifty strikeouts in 59 2/3 IP. Incidentally, I heard a podcaster observe that the 17:10 starts for Cleveland have something to do with getting the game on air before LeBron and the Cavs begin their game.  The Cavs do not play tonight. Brook Trout Trout Fact I'm sitting at my desk drinking coffee with a fan going full speed and Angels at Blue Jays.   "A lot of people love daytime baseball on the radio," says Ben

VerCut

That's right, J V.  He's not just visiting, he's Justin Verlander.  He will take the ball for the Houston Astros today at 13:10 central daylight when they host Jeff Samardzija and the San Francisco Giants at Minute Maid Park deep in the heart of Texas.... LambertCut I'm in the eastern cell phone lot at Lambert International, listening to the HotCut via LTE and the MLB AtBat app.  Altuve takes a bag, his fourth of the year.  The Astros took a 3-1 lead moments ago on a Springer two-run shot.  Correa breaks his bat but the looper lands in left-center.  Altuve scores.  Correa has 32 RBI; the Astros lead 4-1; the Shark is being lifted from the pool. Text Message to Ya: Samardzija with five walks.  He isn't right, not yet.  He wasn't walking guys last year at all. Cell Lot Memories I got here—the airport—unnecessarily early.  Car thermo shows 87°.  Hugo is in the backseat.  I've got the engine running, a real bad use of gasoline.  I've drained a

NorthSide HotCut

Back by popular demand, HotCuts and Bridges is dusting off its printing press and returning to these airwaves.  A contentious and protracted campaign resulted in a cliffhanger vote last night in which The Founder voted "aye" for Redux and The Writer abstained. It will be Trevor Bauer and the Cleveland Indians visiting Tyler Chatwood and the Chicago Cubs tonight at Wrigley Field, 16:05 Pacific daylight time.  Though they lead the woeful American League Central Division, the Indians need a win to even their record, which stands at 22-23.  The Cubs sit two games back of Milwaukee in the National League Central with a 25-19 mark. We will see you later on then for all the fun and festivities that are sure to accompany tonight's HotCut. Ask Pat "After a half inning, Cleveland nothing—and the Cubs coming up," says Pat Hughes on Chicago Cubs radio. Chatwild I've got the 'Cut on TV.  Hugo is in my lap, shedding.  Chatwood walked a couple, top
