Reyes HotCut

Franmil?  Dennys?  Jo-Jo?

No, we're talking about Alex Reyes for today's HotCut.  He makes his return to the major league mound after suffering an elbow injury and undergoing Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2017.

Reyes was sensational on a minor league rehab assignment this May, recording 44 strikeouts in 23 innings while allowing seven hits and seven walks.

He will take the ball in mere moments!

He faces the Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee in a 12:10 central daylight start.  Junior Guerra will pitch for Milwaukee.

In the first, Reyes allowed a Yelich single, picked him off; recorded a couple of Ks and the inning was over.

Now Reyes himself is out on strikes.  After one-and-a-half there is no score in the 'Cut.

Looking @ the League

I want to use this blog as a place to remember.  What was happening in baseball late May 2018?  I see that Michael Brantley has a hit today.  He is a hit machine.  His average is .346 and he's been hitting for more power than I'd've guessed (.573 SLG).  Cleveland has been better this month and Brantley and his .997 May OPS are the reason why.

Back at the 'Cut

Reyes walks Travis Shaw.  Domingo Santana singles.  I'm listening to Uecker.

Villar hits into a double play, 4-6-3.  Sogard walks.  Sogard in motion on a 1-2 pitch, Kratz fouls it off.  Another foul.  Another.  Sogard steals second, 2-and-2 now.  Reyes hits Erik Kratz.

"And the bases are gonna be loaded for Junior Guerra," says Uecker.

Guerra, 7.  Inning over.  No score after two innings.

The good news is Reyes went scoreless. The bad news is that he was done after that (73 pitches).  Bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth (Gant).  No score...yet.

I'll take that

A Yelich bomb off Lyons ties it at 2

The Finish

Lyons was one pitch, one Yelich bomb, and then Lyons was also gone.

Hader came on in the eighth, struck out the side, started the ninth.  He didn't relinquish the 3-2 Brewers leads but he can't close it out either.

Knebel  will enter to face José Martínez after Gyorko sent one up the middle, off of Hader's glove, everyone sage, first and third, two out, Milwaukee clinging to a 3-2 lead, bottom nine.

Knebel fans J-Mart, Crew wins.

And I might've buried the lede because now I'm seeing a report that Reyes was pitching with reduced velocity after striking out a pair in that first inning.  There was no set plan to have lifted him at only 73 pitches.

Desert Bridge

Reds at Diamondbacks, the only game in town, top 7 in AriZona.  The next game begins in about an hour.  It's hard to imagine this game lasting another sixty minutes, unless extras are involved.  The Reds lead the Diamondbacks 6-4.
