May 20, GutCut!!!

At 10:02 the 'Cut was issued:  GutCut!!! The Oldness of Bartolo Colón At 15:12 Bartolo Colón threw the game's first pitch, a strike to Trea Turner.  Max ScherZer takes the mound for Washington in this suburban Atlanta affair.  There is a graphic showing some of the highest combined age totals from various pitcher-batter matchups.  In 2007 Roger Clemens and Julio Franco combined for 92 years of age.  Jamie Moyer is on that list totaling 89 with Henry Blanco and again with Chipper Jones.  Bartolo pitching to Werth adds up to 81 years—Werth turns 38 today.  Colón is 43 and I do believe he is the eldest statesman of baseball. National League on-base percentage leaders:  Harper .468;  Freeman .461;  J Turner .453;  Posey .350;  Goldschmidt .444.  Colón is also the last remaining active major leaguer to have played for the Montreal Expos. Brandon Phillips gets into one, and watches it, and watches it.  Werth could've caught it, but didn't.  Phillips could be on third

May 19, Sale HotCut.

You sent word mid-morning: Sale HotCut.  Boston faces Oakland later on yet, out West, Graveman. Longo's beard is gone.  He's hitting .240.  Single.  Bases loaded, nobody out, for LoMo.  Warren. We have been watching some games, mostly Indians at Astros.  Edwin went deep.  Halos at Mets before that, deGrom untouched.  John and Suzyn say Longo just wears the Yanks out.  Can LoMo homer again?  A bouncer down the first base line, foul by six inches per Suzyn.  Two-and-two, LoMo fouls one straight back.  Again.  LoMo sends one deep, to the 404' sign, straight-a-way but 8.  All runners tag.  This game is tied 2-2, bottom 7.  Now Souza Jr, 0-for-1 with two walks.  The count goes to 0-and-2 and the Souz is not happy.

May 18, DoubleCut.

At 10:46 central daylight you announced, "Another DoubleCut."  This means Colorado Rockies at Minnesota Twins.  The first half of the double header is nearly over.  German Márquez was good enough through five and is in line for the win.  Ervin Santana went seven innings but gave up five runs on six hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.  At 18:10 Tyler Chatwood will go opposite José Berríos in the nightcap. I have listened to a hodgepodge of today's early action.  I heard the Pirates getting to Tanner Roark and the Nationals.  The crushing blow was a John Jaso home run, his third.  He is hitting .165.  I now have the Tigers at home leading 6-5 over the Orioles.  I heard a J.D. Martinez walk.  He is 1-for-1 today with a home run and three walks.  His numbers through only his first handful of games back from injury are otherworldly: 8-for-16 with five homers and something like eight walks on top of that.  Before today's home run and three walks his OPS was 1.886.  Th

May 17, VargasCut.

Jaso's on-base percentage is .250.  He still has the dreads.  Jacob Turner walks him.  Toothpick sighting!  You sent me a bunch of good texts last night re: last night's action.  I will include them, retroactively, as yesterday's entry because I got wasted on deck work, sun, a busted grill, and whiskey & coke and I didn't write anything yesterday at all. You followed up today with this news:  VargasCut. It's Vargas at home for Kansas City to face the Yankees, who send Michael Pineda to the mound. Turner got out of that inning on nine pitches, which is incredible considering he walked the first batter.  It was a fielder's choice, then a GIDP.  R-Zimm fans.  He has cooled somewhat.  Murphy, 3-1, he has cooled as well. Josh Bell fouls one into the catcher's glove, strike two.  The catcher returns the ball to the pitcher, Turner.  Who in turn feels the ball and decides he doesn't want it, presumably because the ball is scuffed.  Pitchers used to

May 15, Cleveland HotCut.

You got me the goods at 9:15 central daylight:  Cleveland HotCut.  It's Chris Archer for Tampa taking on Cleveland and Carlos Carrasco at what's surprisingly one of the older stadiums in baseball.  It used to be called Jacobs Field.  Archer has walked his fourth man.  Cleveland broadcast says he doesn't have his slider today.  It's 5-2 Cleveland, bottom 2, no one out.  Lindor.  An oh-one offering is bounced in.  He fans Lindor on what Tom Hamilton can't discern as a changeup or a slider.  Brantley, who turns 30 today.  Archer's got him nothing-and-two.  Kipnis steals second, Norris clanks the throw off the second base bag, E-2, Almonte strolls home on the errant throw.  Now Norris gets crossed up, passed ball, Lindor to third.  "If your catcher can't catch it you're probably not going to get the call."  Brantley whiffs at Archer's best slider of the night, K.  We have dinner plans, so I must pull the plug on this precocious 'Cut, alas.

May 14, MileHighHotCut.

The Yankees scored a mess of runs against Houston and just won.  We had the game on the kitchen radio while we napped in different spots.  It was on kind of loud.  I thought about getting up to turn it down but I never did.  I heard a Castro homer and a Judge homer.  The neighbor kid knocked on the door looking for me to toss back a couple balls they'd hit into our yard.  I needed to get up anyway.  Then the Yanks started in on the Astros bullpen.  They even got to Devo:  1/3 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 17 pitches.  Then Gardner planted one off of Sipp ... Gardy went Yardy. Earlier I listened to just a snippet of Braves at Marlins.  The Marlins described Marlins Park as "mostly empty". I had a couple of texts about today's 'Cut.  The first was from you at 10:30 central daylight.  It said, "MileHighHotCut".  This pitted Julio Urías and the Dodgers against Antonio SenZatela and the Rockies.  At 12:39 my cousin Jason texted to ask simply, "Hot Cut?&q
