September 22, The Shark vs The Blister:

Schwarber would've been out trying to steal second but the throw from Vogt, while accurate, was a bouncer that Sogard never did snare in the face of all of Schwarber sliding into him at second.  Thus, Schwarber has his first bag of the year. Heyward got out somehow.  Counsell walked Báez.  Lackey sans gloves now bats.  Lackey fans.  Mid 4, it's 3-2 Crew. Andrew Jones Tucker Barnhart singles off of Addison Reed.  I've been watching ball all the while, myriad outs and a few hits sprinkled in have filled the gap in my account of th' evening so far.  I am preoccupied with what my fantasy team is doing (not doing).  It enervates me.  It gives me bags under these mine eyes.  I talk about it only to talk about it.  I need to get it off my chest.  I have feared it tainting, overwhelming, overrunning this season's-long account so I have steered clear.  But I am going to let it in this weekend, for better or for worse. September 21, BrewCrewHotCut: This Day Did Bridge.

I listened to baseball from noon on.  The day did bridge, the most minimal of bridges. The Dodgers Avoid A Sweep It began in Philadelphia at 12:05 central daylight, Kenta Maeda for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Mark Leiter Jr for the Philadelphia Phillies.  I'm not going to tell all for I don't remember all.  I heard Justin Turner take a pitch on the thumb.  He ran the bases but left an inning later.  I heard home runs from:  Andre Ethier, Nick Williams and Curtis Granderson.  Williams's home run gave him fifty runs batted in this year in the majors.  I heard that and couldn't believe it.  César Hernández went 3-for-4.  Cody Bellinger played a little centerfield.  Corey Seager did not play at all.  I heard a Chris Taylor triple.  I heard a Yasmani Grandal double, nearly a home run.  Kenley Jansen got the save, the Dodgers won by one run, 5-4. How A Baseball Bridge is Made That game ended around 15:45 central day...

September 20, GutCut: Joe Sewell Struck Out Four Times.

It's Bartolo Colón and the Minnesota Twins visiting Luis Severino and the New York Yankees.  The game is well underway this Wednesday afternoon, already in the top of the third. Yankee HOF Strikeout Totals There's no score but the Twins have the bases loaded with one out, Joe Mauer at bat.  John and Suzyn are talking Joe DiMaggio and Yogi Berra, a couple of Hall of Famers who didn't strike out much.  The highest single-season strikeout total for Joltin' Joe was 39, in his rookie year.  His career OPS was .977—not bad! The count runs full and Mauer is fouling pitches away as I look up the numbers on Joe D.  Another foul. Yogi never struck out more than 35 times.   His career OPS was .830. Sánchez out to the mound again. "I'm telling you, when they finally stop this it'll be the Sánchez rule," says Suzyn. Another foul.  John guesses that's five fouls on the 3-2 count.  Mauer steps out.  Base hit—one run crosses the plate in the p...

September 18, BronxCut: Aroldis Hits 104.

You are here for Kershaw and a BronxCut.  Chris Taylor hit an inside-the-park home run.  Then Justin Turner pounded a Nick Pivetta cement-mixing junkball to left.  Pivetta then tightened up, getting Bellinger, Puig and Granderson. Aaron Judge hit number 44 off of Ervin Santana.  Sánchez goes 8.  Frank Ocean is playing.  Chocos.  Beers.  CraZy Bowls and Wraps in the fridge. Didi, 7.  After one inning, the Yankees lead 1-0. Aaron Altherr Loses One It was a blast, a grand slam off Kershaw.  We have the volume on low and are talking and still we could hear the crack of the bat. "That sounded like a disturbance in the force," you said. "I think you should Google if Kershaw is vegan," said B. Duffey Has the 8th It's 2-1 Yanks.  In the top half, Betances loaded the bases.  As you said, "The only out he got, they gave him."  Chapman came in, struck Mauer out on three pitches and then got Buxton, 9, on one.  Duff...

September 17: On The Highway, Headed Home.

We are on the highway, headed south, closing in on Springfield—Illinois. Orioles at Yankees We had Bookman on, Orioles at Yankees, but I went to switch the audio feed from aux cord to USB input for the better sound quality.  As I reinitiated the stream it defaulted to John Sterling, so we'll let him take it from here.  It's 12:15 on Sunday.  Our long road trip is just about over. Suzyn does a scoreboard, noting Frankie Lindor's 31st home run.  Cleveland clinched the AL Central last night. Armbruster:  Tents Make Sense Austin Hays drives in a run on a hanger from Sonny Gray.  We pass the tentmaker just south of Springfield.  It used to be called Armbruster .  I thought I saw that name on a sign out in front of the building there, away from the highway, but I couldn't be sure.  There were three large tarp-covered structures facing the highway, each bearing one of three words:  "Tents Make Sense".  A little south of there, a ...
