April 29, DesertHotCut.

Today at 11:18 pacific daylight word came down:  DesertHotCut.  In his third 'Cut, Tyler Anderson, he of the 1-3 record and 7.11 ERA, will oppose Zack Greinke.  Rox at Snakes, at 17:10 pacific daylight.  Yesterday the Rockies beat the Snakes 3-1 behind Kyle Freeland, whose ERA is at 2.93.  You took the loss but it was your first losing decision and your ERA is 3.56.  Greg Holland got his tenth save.  YowZa. For my part I have tuned into the matchup I was watching last night before alcohol and smoke reduced me to a non-thinking being: Mets at Nats.  Strasburg has pitched well enough, 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HR (Conforto).  He's back out there now for the seventh, 84 pitches.  Wheeler needed 96 pitches to go 4 2/3 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K.  Game score 48. Stras continues to eschew the windup.  He's still hitting 97 mph, throwing mostly fastballs, the odd curve.  Change at 89 dives in to the righty T.J. Rivera.  Fastball up and Rivera is on with one out, not hit har

April 28, CapitolCut.

At 9:27 pacific daylight you sent me this:  CapitolCut.  It's deGrom and the Yoenis-less Mets catching an Amtrak down to D.C. to face Max ScherZer and the Washington Nationals, tonight at 16:05 pacific daylight.  If you can't be there, if you must be somewhere else, tune into Gary, Ron, and Keith on WPIX or Charlie and Dave on WJFK, 106.7 FM in the Beltway. ... Travis d'Arnaud buggy-whipped one to left for two runs.  deGrom is sharp so far.  Zimmermann gets him and it's 2-1.  That home run went to right, seemingly off the end of the bat, he's swinging it as well as ever right now.  Murphy talks to the ump.  Murphy, 9. Wieters tweets one to dead center, B thinks something's up with deGrom.  Where is Wieters from?  HotCut is humming.  Charleston, South Carolina.  Yankees - Orioles, NY broadcast, is going in the kitchen.  CC is pitching. Toothpick sighting! d'Arnaud again, a 3-run shot, Mets 5-3.  Mets broadcast: a "career game and it's only

April 27, DoubleCut.

Greetings from the home of today's HotCut.  At 10:09 daylight central you sent the following: DoubleCut.  The Blue Jays will play a doubleheader today at Busch Stadium in a cool, damp, and grey downtown St. Louis.  CarMart and Mat Latos in the first game, which starts momentarily. I have Braves at Mets on both TV and radio.  I thought Harvey was looking good—clean shaven, a bit lighter than last I saw, not mound-dippin'—but he has swerved out of that central path, walking three in this the second inning.  Bases loaded, Dickey goes 5-3, but a run is in.  Both broadcasts wonder why Reyes didn't come home to get SuZuki.  Harvey has lost several pitches wide.  Warthen came out to talk to him early in this inning, leaving the radio crew curious because they hadn't noticed anything.  Inciarte strikes out but the Braves are on top 2-0.  I have no sense of what thoracic outlet syndrome entails, does anyone really? Bruce doubles, Walker singles, Bruce tries to score, Inciart

April 26, MileHighHotCut

Earlier today, at 11:50 central daylight, you said:  The HotCut stays in Colorado.  After last night, I have no choice. That makes it three in a row for this MileHightCut.  I have been watching it for the last half hour or so.  Trea launched one, making it 3-0 Nats...now R-Zimm strokes one peak-form to right, leg kick, torque: he looks amaZing.  That's his eighth of the year.  Wow!  The Rox were threatening earlier but D.J. LeMahieu GIDP.  A Nats offense of: Eaton, Turner, Harper, Zimmermann, Murphy...Rendon, Werth...is ironclad. The Blues, by the way, are losing 3-1 after two periods.  They need a miracle in the third. Camera on Dusty but I cannot confirm a toothpick.  He was working something in his mouth.  Dusty versus Bud as managers, 21 wins each.  All kinds of Dusty footage, mouth movement, spitting.  Smoke but no fire.  The broadcast is talking about his infamous son—the near collision near home plate in the World Series—and it seems that son will be drafted this summe

April 25, MileHighCut.

That got a little sloppy there—the penmanship doesn't lie.  You didn't send me a HotCut for today.  You texted me re: my job, to see if I'd follow through.  I think that distracted you.  I wanted to ask about a 'Cut but I decided to let it lie. There's still baseball and I note a 17:10 central daylight start for Astros at Cleveland:  Keuchel - Tomlin.  I have the radio feed on my radio and the visual on my TV, even though other games now have started.  The Tribe lead 1-0, top 5, on an Austin Jackson solo homer.  ...  Houston just tied it on an Aoki double, his second of the season.  Now Reddick singles, drives in two, 3-1 'Stros, and a la a text you once sent, Josh Tomlin has turned into a pumpkin. Jason Kipnis is back from injury.  He sent one to and perhaps destined to go over the wall but "Do it All" Reddick made the catch.  I've switched my visual feed to Grubs - Rats, Hendrciks at Cole.  I could imagine that as a 'Cut but I never scrut

April 24, MileHighHotCut.

At 12:49 central daylight, about 45 minutes after I dropped you and Jocelyn at Lambert International, you texted me the following:  MileHighHotCut. There is a lot to say, a lot to recap, I have just seen you and I have a body sense of something amongst absurdity, shock, and exhaustion—and therapy, like getting out of a spa, comfort.  Maybe not tonight but I wish I could see you again tomorrow or the next day or the day after that.  HotCut, HotCut, let me stay on track. This could be the apex, the final high moment of Jacob Turner's career, as he opposes—not Cody, not Chase but Tyler—Anderson in Denver tonight at 19:40 central daylight, 18:40 mountain, 17:40 PDX.  It was funny hearing you talk about cursive and I can't remember if it was you or B talking about making Zeds but I chuckled inwardly knowing about this volume.  I will have finished it by the time of your birthday and I will hand it to you at the Big Stan Musial Statue, or some place and time thereafter before you
