That got a little sloppy there—the penmanship doesn't lie. You didn't send me a HotCut for today. You texted me re: my job, to see if I'd follow through. I think that distracted you. I wanted to ask about a 'Cut but I decided to let it lie.
There's still baseball and I note a 17:10 central daylight start for Astros at Cleveland: Keuchel - Tomlin. I have the radio feed on my radio and the visual on my TV, even though other games now have started. The Tribe lead 1-0, top 5, on an Austin Jackson solo homer. ... Houston just tied it on an Aoki double, his second of the season. Now Reddick singles, drives in two, 3-1 'Stros, and a la a text you once sent, Josh Tomlin has turned into a pumpkin.
Jason Kipnis is back from injury. He sent one to and perhaps destined to go over the wall but "Do it All" Reddick made the catch. I've switched my visual feed to Grubs - Rats, Hendrciks at Cole. I could imagine that as a 'Cut but I never scrutinized the whole Slate to try and pick What Would Have Been.
Three games have been postponed; could have been a BirdCut: Estrada - Wacha. But, this just in, Kershaw goes tonight. Ain't no 'Cut like a KershawCut. He goes opposite Ty Blach who is in for...the Mad Dirtbiker. It was supposed to be Kershaw - Bumgarner tonight in San Fran. We wuz robbed. The 'Cut left its heart in the bleeding gas tank of the dirtbike Bumgarner rode as he crashed it into a sad Colorado sunset.
And then at 18:41 central daylight you sent me this text: I know Kershaw is pitching, but the 'Cut stays high above the clouds.
It's a little premature for me to brooch this analysis but you might not get to this page until June, July, August so I will engage in some 'Cut cutting. It was more pitcher matchup focused last year. So far this year you are looking more at records, e.g. tonight. Whether I like this or not doesn't matter. I gave you a little pushback last year about working some hot bats into the 'Cut, instead of focusing only on pitchers. I do like the record influence having a presence, even when it's Joe Ross and German Márquez. I started a printed-out spreadsheet to track the HotCut pitchers and...I made an assumption about how many cells I would need...if German Márquez and Jacob Turner are on the grid my assumption could be in trouble. But I love it.
There is no one in the stands in Pittsburgh. Box score weather: 57°, driZzle. If there are two zeds and I'm doing cursive, early returns say it's the second zed that should be upped but I prefer upping the first. This is a laboratory, I'll keep experimenting. Gregory Polanco is enormous. He looks like a slim, young David Ortiz. He is lumbering in left field. He is a first baseman...next year or the year after. They'll put him at first and say: don't worry about chasing down flies, don't steal bags, just hit. Indians broadcast gave a stat about Altuve and 200-hit seasons by second-basemen: it was Charlie Gehringer, Hornsby, and one other guy (Alomar?).
Jaso looks terrible striking out. Tom Hamilton is ripping Mark Appel and Scott Boras. Jaso will be DFA'd within 35 days. He's in right batting .100 swinging like that?
Nuts, Altuve and Aoki collide trying to make a play, they're both down, per Tom H on the Indians broadcast. He is the best. He tells it straight up—err—well, now he says it wasn't Aoki but MarWin GonZalez, err...developing situation here, it's Teoscar Hernandez. Aoki is fine, Beltrán is out of the game. Tom Ham says, "Hey, we never got an announcement about a replacement." Meanwhile, K Hendricks is dealing, about through five clean in Pittsburgh.
Altuve out, Hernandez out. MarWin at second, Springer "tender hamstring and all" replaces Teoscar in right. No bueno.
I was listening to the BirdUnCut. Estrada escaped a jam, the game was tied. I've got KOA on again for the HotCut. The Nat broadcast is cromulent but I have a soft spot for 850 KOA, a station I have gotten "for real" on the AM dial. Harper doubles but it's not an RBI even though Turner scored because the outfielder bobbled the ball. Zimmermann strikes out. That's a hard name to pen in cursive. Murphy shoots one to short, Story knocks it down, comes home to get Harper.
Thames again! He has 11 home runs. This is getting craZy! The Brewers are destroying the Red Sox, Part Deux.
I made some guacamole with too much garlic. My mouth tingles. D.J. sends Eaton to the wall, 8. Goodnight for just tonight. There is day baseball tomorrow.
P.S. It's 2:15 central daylight, April 26. By now the smoke has cleared in Denver after a 27-run shootout, Nats win 15-12. Trea Turner might've set a 'Cut record with seven RBI, cycling to boot.
