Greetings from the home of today's HotCut. At 10:09 daylight central you sent the following: DoubleCut. The Blue Jays will play a doubleheader today at Busch Stadium in a cool, damp, and grey downtown St. Louis. CarMart and Mat Latos in the first game, which starts momentarily.
I have Braves at Mets on both TV and radio. I thought Harvey was looking good—clean shaven, a bit lighter than last I saw, not mound-dippin'—but he has swerved out of that central path, walking three in this the second inning. Bases loaded, Dickey goes 5-3, but a run is in. Both broadcasts wonder why Reyes didn't come home to get SuZuki. Harvey has lost several pitches wide. Warthen came out to talk to him early in this inning, leaving the radio crew curious because they hadn't noticed anything. Inciarte strikes out but the Braves are on top 2-0. I have no sense of what thoracic outlet syndrome entails, does anyone really?
Bruce doubles, Walker singles, Bruce tries to score, Inciarte unloads and nails Bruce at home.
I took June for a walk. I come back and the bases are loaded, Harvey in trouble again, the struggling Dansby Swanson at the plate. Harvey is dipping now. The sound of lawnmowers permeates the Teasdale air. Full count. FC 5-2...this time Reyes came home. Crummy throw from Jose...as Ron D says, a "nervous" throw. Dickey FC 5-2...yes, again. That ball was a swinging bunt, Reyes barehanded it, very nice. Harvey is perspiring heavily, the catcher comes out. Inciarte, 6. A bases-loaded no-one out buffet goes untouched by the Atlanta bats. Ender is in a funk.
I went and turned the 'Cut on the radio. I come back and Céspedes is being helped off the field. I heard the reports during Spring Training about how strong he was and these craZy weights he was lifting. But these leg injuries keep cropping up and keeping him off the field. A knuckle knuckles and Neil Walker, who'd doubled in PR Lagares, scored on the wild pitch/passed ball. SuZuki isn't acquainted with the knuckler.
I listen to the HotCut on a Thursday afternoon in a suddenly sunny St. Louis. Gyorko fans as the Redbirds attempt to piece together a rally. Adams flies out, to the ninth. Latos went six, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 4 K, 82 pitches, 66 game score. CarMart also went 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 8 K, 97 pitches, 53 game score. And Kolten Wong was picked off again.
Grichuk gets to Osuna, tying it at 4, and a DoubleCut gets even thicker.... They then had a real good chance to win bottom ten but Jose Martinez went 9.
Walk-off granny for Marp!
...
I was just texting you about Turner with 11 RBI for the Nats in this Colorado series and Harper apparently ruined one for a 3-run jack and a 14-2 lead.
Reddick is having trouble in center in Cleveland. I guess he's there because Marisnick went on the DL and then Teoscar Hernandez had that collision with José A. It's Devenski and he is just spinning yarns of strikeout like RumplestiltsKin. His K/BB before this outing was 27/1. Is that good? Mound dipper! J Ramírez Ks, Kipnis Ks. Disgusting changeup. Devo. 95 with the heater, 85 with the change. Broadcast makes a Kevin Appier comp. Lawnmower going. These motors are driving me loony. Chisenhall chases and this guy is taking all the opposing bats and dumping napalm on them and dousing them with disgust and sending them through a woodchipper into darkness and apology.
Kluber works in the top of the seventh. He's dealing now, Gattis goes down swinging. Ten Ks for the Klubot. It's 3-2 HOU but Kluber did what he needed to do. Second half of the DoubleCut pours through the rooms of this our house. Fowler has homered; Adams has driven in at least a run; Piscotty has a bag...it sound as if St. Louis is winning but I have that only on background. Devenski fans Almonte. Ray, this guy is unreal. High fastball to Gomes. Outside fastball. Curve at 83 in the dirt. Waino doubles. Outside fastball strike. Foul on 95 mph. High and out, 95 mph, a walk. Santana fans. Lindor. Outside fastball. High fastball. 43 pitches for Devenski. How long can this go on? LINDOR!! You leave this guy in for 44 pitches...sweet swing Lindor. It's 4-3 Indians. Lindor has six home runs so far this year.
It's 6-0 Crads. I feel for Toronto. Gibbons gets an extension, it's not his fault. They blew it when they ran...not Ricciari, not Arencibia...damn...they brought Shapiro in...the Price trade cost them Norris and Boyd but pitching isn't really their problem. The Encarnacion non-sign was fatal. Tulo hasn't done much but the main piece they dealt in that trade, Jeff Hoffmann, hasn't done bunk either. Not every team can be good all at once I guess. Obviously they miss Donaldson. A healthy Josh D and maybe that game earlier doesn't go extras.
Morales yards out, it's 6-4 in a wink—that's me winking—wink wink. Shannon annihilates Saltalamacchia's name. Tanaka gets Benintendi 4-3 for a 3-hit SO and now the Crads-Jays is the only game going. Bridge. HotCut Double Decker Covered Bridge. HotCut and Bridge in one game in the hometown of the Founders. Double decker because it's part of a double header. Covered because it wouldn't be happening if not for a prior rainout. I just love how a prior rainout means baseball right now because Not For this game there wouldn't be any. Anyway, how about Tanaka? Awful on Opening Day and then flawless today in Boston. The Yankees are on point!
Now, Padres and Diamondbacks start and it's the 2001 Schilling - Big Unit - Luis Gonzalez - Byung Hyung Kim - Craig Counsell - Tony Womack purple-mint-pinstripe-vest uniforms. The Snake LSD uniform carousel keeps on spinning. Taijuan on the mound.
