At 8:27 central daylight I got the text:

"Gotta be another CradsCut"

Live from Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, Melky Cabrera gets thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple, plating the game's first run in the process.  It's Verlander - Quintana, a make-up game.  Had yesterday's game not been rained out, there would not be any baseball right now.

Enter 24-year-old JaCoby Jones who connects on a low Quintana delivery and puts the Tigers up 3-1.  I'm not feeling it at the moment but...that was Jones's first major-league home run.  Quintana's pitch count is getting a little high a little early.  And then there goes Nick Castellanos!  Quintana seems to be doing his best Tanaka impression.  It's going to be a short stint for the Colombian native today.

About fifteen minutes ago, Kinsler homered.

Hours later.  On the tube in front of me is Colorado at Milwaukee.  Kyle "Permit Driver" Davies is in trouble.  Parra just cleared 'em with a double to deep center.  It's 4-1 Rockies.  Tyler Anderson for Colorado.  He had a nice tailing fastball, touching 94.  Blackmon still has a shaggy beard.  Arenado made a nice diving stop to take a hit away from Braun.

On the radio, local radio, is the HotCut: Grubs at Cards.  If there is a score, Mike and John haven't shared it yet.  Heyward was booed.  Why exactly?  Leave it alone, let it lie, can't we?  He gets traded here, gets a better offer to play in Chicago, nose-dives.  This motivates Cardinal fans to boo?  I'm confused.  Rooney mentions Ernie Harwell, Jeff Torborg...but not the score.  There are two outs—now he mentions Kirby Puckett, but not the score.  I know I'm being negative, kicking an already dead old hobby horse, but they are so irksome!  BaeZ hits.  Down on strikes.  To the bottom of the second.  Alas, there is no score.

Switching the TV feed to Mariners at Astros.  McCullers.  Sweeping slider gets Segura, ends the inning.  So much for that. Good thing I've got the 'Cut on background.  Molina 5-3; Arrieta has set down five in a row.  Just two days ago you said something about STL not having much future dinero tied up.  The Piscotty extension has since been signed.  And Arrieta gets him—that inning was over before I could even begin to tell you about it!  Arrieta is getting up and down so far.

McCann—Brian—is bearded again.  Speaking of beards, we saw Longo inside-out a Sabathia delivery earlier.  He is hot!  Arrieta gets the first hit of the game, out of the eighth spot.  McCann is "kinda pudgy, " says B.  He does look it.  I can't believe he will hold up at catcher carrying that excess.  Schwarber sends one back back back back back but mercilessly it falls to Fowler.

Heyward drops one into left, Cubs 1-0, first and third, one down.  A bunt.  Waino goes home.  Nope.  Contreras scores.  Seattles also scratches out a run.  Waino throws one to the screen.  Trouble brewing.  Arrieta down swinging at a curve in the dirt.  Almora Jr.  Astros broadcast lists McCullers's arsenal but slider isn't listed so I guess what I saw was a curve.  Waino escapes.

Waino gets Bryant looking and he's fanned four in a row.  McCullers through five.  I've neglected to mention that Iwakuma is pitching for Seattle. It's 1-1 there, bottom five windy.  Piscotty HBP.  Vodka now.  McCann GIDP—Gattis the lead runner—and 'Kuma is through five, that game 1-1.  No Zobrist tonight.  Grichuk can-of-corns to left.  It's up to Wong.  Kind of a sparse crown in Houston.  A throw attempting to nab Piscotty at home hits him in the head, he's down.  Apparently he scored on a Wong single.  He's walking off now.  BaeZ gets an error on the throw...and on the play fielding the ball?  The broadcast is confused, I'm confused.  It doesn't matter, it's 2-1.  Smash bats.  Zunino bats.  Correa lays out but it's an infield hit.  Smash walks, Arrieta's first.  Correa is doing something unusual with his eye black, the beginnings of a mask.  Shannon is still hung up on the scoring of that Wong single.  "That can't be."  McCullers makes a hell of a play breaking off the mound, fielding a hopper, and charging to first all in one fluid motion.  Crads is on commercial, I guess Arrieta skated.

Marwin Gonzalez goes Crawford boxes.  "I'm sick of these bozos," says B, heading to bed.  They're still talking about the scoring on that play!  Springer caught stealing for the second time tonight.  His efficiency was down last year and he might be done trying to take bags.  Altuve legs one out.  Cecil loosens.  Day game tomorrow.  Many of these things I might have said by text.  Marp flies out, now 0-for-27 versus Arrieta.

They're singing, "Deep in The Heart of Texas."  The sound is off but I could tell by the crowd shots, the way they clapped, and the look of mirth on the fans' faces.  Cecil is on, his Cardinal debut.  The only news all spring I saw on him was that game he blew up.  Rzepczynski is alive and well as a Seattle Mariner.  McCann sends a grounder to right, but into the shift.  June stayed with me on the couch when B retired.

Smash sends one to the wall.  Almora brings it back in.  Danny Valencia doesn't look the way I thought he did.  Uehara, Father Time, goes 3-up, 3-down.  He is the all-time leader in MLB history in WHIP.  I'm not kidding!  Obviously that uses a threshold of minimum innings that allows a reliever to be considered.  Valencia singles, to go to 2-for-9 career against Luke Gregerson.  Strop warms.  Hey, Waino pitched pretty well tonight, eh?  I haven't had my phone nearby all evening.  I don't know his K:BB but he gave his team a chance.  Gregerson fans Leonys, one of the worst MLB regulars—second mention?  Siegrist dings RiZzo.  Adventures of Wong Chasing Pop Fouls Down the Right Field Line, coming soon to a theater near you.  To bottom eight, Grubs 2-1.  Someone named Dan Altavilla induces Marwin to fly out to center.  Altavilla had great numbers in a short sample last year.  He's about Altuve's height, plus about 35 pounds of pure beef.  He buzzes Springer; fans him.  Then pops Bregman out.  2-1 in THAT GAME, to the 9th.

Strop—Shit.  Pen DOWN!  Dang-it.  I loved how it was writing and it had plenty of ink left.  But it, when they go bad it's like something sharp comes out of the end.  I pulled one out once with tweezers or pliers—a long, thin filament of sorts.  Broxton on!  During the incommunicado I wanted to text on the day I realiZed he was still on the team.  The other big even that went by the wayside was The Fed winning the Australian Open.  How ridiculous was that!

Astros win.  Giles got the last three outs.  BaeZ flew out to deep center.  Zobrist is on, I drifted away.  Shannon is losing it.  Called Fowler Heyward, Zobrist BaeZ.  Baseball on mute might be the perfect medium as I embark on whatever this is.  It's RiZzo now.  Great win for Houston.  They're good.  Seattle is pretty good.  No, it's not RiZzo but Schwarber.  Hey, I'm just going based on what Mike's telling me.  Groundout, fielder's choice.  Crads need one.  It's Wade Davis time.

Molina lined out.  Jose Martinez walked.  It's Grichuk.  5-4 FC.  It's up to Wong.  Grounder, close call at first, "This could be a big, big play here."  Matheny out, replay.  O-U-T.  Goodnight, everybody.

...

As it happens, I'm still awake.  I caught a little Dodgers - Padres (Wil Myers GIDP, Maeda pitching, SD up 3-0) and then some Giants 8 - D'Backs 2.  Pretty sure we were consensus Arizona over.  Now, Angels 3- A's 0.  Shoemaker.  Cameron Maybin just caught a flyout.  I don't know what I'm doing awake.  I have a real problem too with i's and n's near one another.  I wrote the word "innings" earlier and did so poorly, that was better.  Commercial break in progress, Jake.  Manaea.  The O.Co looks poorly lit.  Escobar doesn't go around.  The Oakland ballboy brings more balls to the umpire.  Manaea buries one.  6-4-3.  Semien has gotten dirt on the front of his jersey, but not on that play.  It's Cowboy Kole Calhoun.  Trout sighting.  He's on deck.  Calhoun walks.

Heck, I can't remember the last Trout plate appearance I saw let alone transcribed.  Manaea throws a fastball high, 1-1.  Trout sends one down the line, lost in the corner, K-hris Davis took a bad route, Kalhoun scores, Trout to third with an RBI triple.  Maybe I will call it there.
