Today at 9:28 central daylight I received the following text from one RLW Jr:
GutCut!!!
That will happen tonight at 18:10 in Flushing, NY. Colón, now pitching for Atlanta, against Jacob deGrom.
Originally, there were three early games slated for today. Two were washed out: Cubs at Cardinals (they will play tomorrow on what must've been an open day for both clubs) and Tigers at White Sox. The latter have been raised out twice now. My mother happens to be in Chicago. In a text she said there was lots of rain there.
The remainder was the tailings, not the best but re-claimable. I listened off and on: Royals at Twins. I heard Kennedy get into trouble early on. He was walking guys, two in the second, both scored, the inning became a three-spot. I want to relate first or only my pure recollection of moments I heard. Buxton striking out, for the sixth time in nine at-bats. The KC broadcast—Denny Matthews—mentioned that Molitor batting Buxton third had many of us scratching our heads. Not that it hurt the Twins. They scored a mess of runs during one of the bouts of 'off' in my listening. As Denny said when I hooked back in, "Suddenly, it's a blow-out." Nate Karns got roughed, too—he's starting this weekend, maybe this was his side-session. I've suggested teams attempt this maneuver but the results today were ugly. Four runs in 2/3 IP. Then Matt Strahm came in. I had him on Andrew Jones for a stint in 2016 and he was lights out until one day the lights went out and stayed out. I assumed he was hurt. KC runs him out there twice so far this year, woeful results both times, his ERA is 81. That Chris Young had to finish it off with one clear (two hits). 9-1 final. Dozier took two bags. Hector S got the win. Kennedy walked five in five. There isn't much else to say. A bridge was unlikely today but as it happened the plans never even left the architect's office.
Postscript. We watched some of Bartolo Colón in the HotCut but I was so used up by the rainstorm that I had to go lie down. I had had a few drinks, too, and I was done. I thought maybe I'd wake back up and catch some late action. I awoke around 23:20 and there were games going. Plus, I had your texts:
1) How about Colón?
2) Trout with a Ribbie, Pujols follows with first hit of the season
3) Three games make it to the 12th!
4) I can't watch SEA/HOU...blacked out
5) Watched some LAA, but games in Oakland are hard to watch. Now I'm in the desert.
