B and I were up on the WU campus walking June on a magnificent May day when I heard the knock in my pocket, hoping for a 'Cut and getting it: TwinCityHotCut. I had the game on MLB.tv but I admit to snooZing. I heard the Benintendi homer and later saw his double. I watched Sale attack but then I also watched him nibble and get squeezed on some close outside pitches to Grossman and Sanó in the fifth. I saw Sandy Leon homer, the third Big Erv had allowed, much to his surprise and dismay. It looked pleasant at Target Field and the ball was carrying out. It's 7-6 now, a close 'Cut although Boston has seemed to be in control most of the way. Matt Barnes came on and didn't get an out but it's still 7-6, Kimbrel on, man on third, one out, bottom seven. I've turned it off of the TV and have it on the radio. Meanwhile, the Blues are in the second intermission, tied with Nashville. Mauer caught looking, Mauer incensed.
On the AM dial, B had the Crad game on. I could hear it only when the 'Cut was on commercial break. The Crad bullpen only has one run against it but...maybe two of Wacha's earned runs were runners Bowman inherited. Not sure. I heard Broxton get out of a jam in the tenth. I heard Inciarte retired with the bases jammed on a very close call at first that even Rooney thought would be reversed to 'safe' upon review, but wasn't. It's a pleasant Sunday scene here: sounds of the 'Cut in the air, the start of the Blues game imminent with their season on the line, Crads in extras, texts from you, B getting peeved about her fantasy team (injuries piling up, Amir Garrett being demoted).
Later. Tigers at A's, bottom eight, is making a bridge attempt. It is the only game going. I was hopeful that Arizona at Colorado, recently mired in a rain delay, would emerge from rain delay status only in time to bridge the gap of open baseball space extant before commencement of tonight's Game of the World—a type of bridge I call a Covered Bridge. There has not, to my knowledge, yet been a completed Covered Bridge in 2017....
I have the ESPN radio broadcast going. It's 1-0 Yanks, not a lot has happened. They're talking about how cold it is there, like John and Suzyn yesterday. I'm typing my April entries, specifically an April 8 KerCut. Severino and Lester are both pitching well, keeping it quiet. Báez fouls one off of himself and goes "down in a heap." Ankle shot. Then he homers, into the twilight.
Frost advisory in effect for Chicago from midnight tonight until 6 am tomorrow morning. The Yankees are going for a sweep tonight. Friday's game was close but then yesterday was a laugher. It's close again so far tonight, still 1-1, bottom four and it'll stay that way, 1-3, Cubs strand two.
...
I went to sleep but I'm awake again and the Cubs somehow managed to put three runs across bottom nine against Chapman, tying this game 4-4 and sending it to extras. Chapman went 2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 ER, 2 K. Ouch. He hit RiZzo but the bases were already loaded. Girardi lifted him in favor of Tyler Clippard. Wade Davis is now on for the Cubs, top ten.
...
Well, you're not going to believe this. I have woken back up. The game had gone silent—or only had the radio gone silent, a dead battery in the Walkman I was using to tune in the FM feed. Who won I wondered? Had I turned it off? I hadn't. I checked the app n my phone. Still going! It's in the 17th now, Strop working top 17. It is epic. Seventeen innings on a cold Sunday night, now Monday morning. Each team has struck out 22 times, 44 total, an all-time record. Bottom 17, Chasen Shreve gets Russell 6-3. The Cubs have used two of their starters to pinch-hit, Arrieta and Lackey. There are numerous 0-fers so far but I'll wait to recap. To the 18th.
Yanks scratch one across in the top of the 18th.

Castro 0-for-8 but with two RBI and one run. Gregorious 0-for-8. Headley 0-for-7 with 4 Ks. Austin Romine 0-for-7. Addison Russell 0-for-6 with a run and two walks. It's 1:20 central daylight. Goodnight!
