August 7, MoCut.

You needed only five letters and you got it to me before five o'clock your time:  MoCut.

Preview

When it was a World Series it was called the I-70 Series.  At 57-53 the Royals are two-and-a-half games back of Cleveland in the AL Central although, perhaps more importantly, they would have a spot in the AL Wild Card game, were the season to end today (they would travel to New York to play the Yankees).  At 55-56, the St Louis Cardinals would all go their separate ways, were the season to end today.  They travel the Chicago Cubs by three-and-a-half games in the NL Central and remain far out of the Wild Card race.  In tonight's game the visiting Cardinals send Carlos Martinez to the mound, opposite Ian Kennedy for the Royals.  The game begins at 19:15 central daylight.

The Slate doesn't go live on this Monday until 18:05.  More than half of the teams are off today.  You'll have a couple of late games to choose from:  Orioles at Angels, Cubs at Giants.  If I had to guess, I'd say there's a decent chance you'll be doing some Trout Fishing later.

No Day Game Doldrums

It's 16:05 central daylight.  Two hours until baseball.  Time to take the dog out.  Then dinner prep.  Salmon tonight.

Listening to KMOX in Bed, Like When I Was a Kid

I saw Chris O'Grady strain his right oblique, fight to stay in the game, then leave.  I saw Harper homer.  I saw Rendon take a Despaigne change off his right knuckles.  I saw, on an insistent, hopping, skipping replay Giancarlo Stanton take ScherZer deep, tying Nats-Fish at 2.  But MLB.TV was on the fritz and I've quit on it for the night.  I am in bed, with B, and with Hugo.

I have one KMOX earbud in.  Greg Garcia walks with the bases loaded, extending the Cardinals lead to 3-1.  A few boos cascade down.  Rooney makes a terrible joke.  Horton has already referred to a former teammate as "a friend".  A Butera pickoff attempt to nab Fowler at third goes awry.  The ball ricocheted off of Fowler, who got up and ran home, 4-1 Cardinals.  The Royals do miss Sal Perez, how could they not?  They are operating now an a substitute, after-market engine.  Marp goes yard, a three-run shot, 7-1 STL, and this one has gone wide open.  The 'Cut is a stinging, widening wound on Ian Kennedy's record.

Hosmer homers.  Melky doubles.  Moustakas reaches, E-3.  Yadi goes out to talk to CarMart, to settle him down.  Rooney makes another terrible joke.  He treats the Cardinals broadcast like his own eponymous podcast.  Barf.  Moss, K.  That's four whiffs for CarMart.
