September 21, BrewCrewHotCut: This Day Did Bridge.

I listened to baseball from noon on.  The day did bridge, the most minimal of bridges.

The Dodgers Avoid A Sweep

It began in Philadelphia at 12:05 central daylight, Kenta Maeda for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Mark Leiter Jr for the Philadelphia Phillies.  I'm not going to tell all for I don't remember all.  I heard Justin Turner take a pitch on the thumb.  He ran the bases but left an inning later.  I heard home runs from:  Andre Ethier, Nick Williams and Curtis Granderson.  Williams's home run gave him fifty runs batted in this year in the majors.  I heard that and couldn't believe it.  César Hernández went 3-for-4.  Cody Bellinger played a little centerfield.  Corey Seager did not play at all.  I heard a Chris Taylor triple.  I heard a Yasmani Grandal double, nearly a home run.  Kenley Jansen got the save, the Dodgers won by one run, 5-4.

How A Baseball Bridge is Made

That game ended around 15:45 central daylight.  By that time Indians at Angels was in the second inning.  I heard less of this game but even with that considered less of this game stands out.  Francisco Lindor homered again, his 32nd.  Danny SalaZar started for Cleveland, I heard him record his third strikeout.  But he must not have lasted long because Zach McAllister was out there for Cleveland as soon as the fourth inning.

The Angels couldn't get anything going.  I heard a Trout single precede a Juston Upton GIDP.  I later saw Andrelton Simmons rip a liner right to Erik Gonzalez at second base (Jose Ramírez was not playing).  Cleveland had Simmons played perfectly:  Gonzalez was just barely on the first base side of second base.  Even when Simmons doesn't pull the ball he doesn't get it very far to the first-base side of second base.  Of the last ten at-bats I've seen of Simmons, this was the closest he has come to hitting the ball the opposite way.

Andrew Miller appeared on his Franken-knee and wasn't immediately sharp.  Indians pitching coach Mickey Calloway went out to the mound.  Whatever he said, it worked.  Miller found his way out of the inning with no harm done.  I saw Tyler Olson get the save.  I don't know where Cody Allen was.  Indians 4, Angels 1.

As the Indians closed out their 27th win in 28 tries, a couple games from the evening slate had already gotten underway.  Thursday bridge, from noon on, using only two strategically placed early games.  This was a day to be recorded in the annals of minimalist bridgemaking.

More Fans Dressed as Seats

Now it's Rays at Orioles whilst I wait for a BrewCrew HotCut to begin.  Manny Machado went deep.  Mallex Smith was caught trying to steal third, making the first out of the game at third base on a steal attempt:  now there's something you don't see everyday.

It's 3-1 Orioles at a fairly empty Camden Yards.  I guess all the sports fans in Baltimore have turned their eyes to the football field.  Go Ravens, Go Terrapins.  What, Gabriel Ynoa doesn't do it for you?  We got Matt Andriese here!

Sogard, So Good

A two-out hit by Eric Sogard scores Keon Broxton, this game is tied at two, bottom seven.  Arrieta went five innings, allowing five hits, one walk and one run against two strikeouts.  Permit Driver Davies is through seven innings on 77 pitches.  He has struck out three while issuing a couple of walks along with seven hits and two runs.  He gave up a Schwarber bomb to left-center in the second inning.

Pedro Strop now walks Neil Walker.  The sacks are packed for Ryan Braun.  HotCut, anyone?
