September 7, KerCut: "Crads Fans Are all Kershaw Fans Today".

There is one early game today—it starts momentarily.  I thank the rain clouds for this early game because the original schedule was blank until th'evening.  Yankees at Orioles, washed out yesterday, was rescheduled for right now.  I plan to listen to Bookman.

The HotCut is a KerCut, starting later.  Jon Gray and the Rockies open a series in Los Angeles against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers.  The Rockies have noticed a change in their rearview mirror: that's the St Louis Cardinals, two games back.  On Kershaw, on Morrow, on Buehler, on Jansen!

Not So Fast, My Friend

Arenado bangs 98 into right field.  Mark Reynolds singles back up the box.  It's top six at Chavez Ravine but Clayton Kershaw is long gone by now.  This is Brandon Morrow, tasked with keeping Colorado from padding their 6-1 lead.  He gets a liner to left—Alex Verdugo laid out for it—and then a 6-3 GIDP, Stirrups Taylor fielding, hitting the second-base bag, throwing to first for the third out of the inning.  Let's see if the Dodgers have some comeback in them.

Bellinger fanned on a 3-2 fastball—he was guarding against the slider in and he couldn't catch up to high heat on the outer half.  Grandal went 4-3 into a deep infield lefty-minded shift.  Puig is in the hole.  Puig, 8.  All of a sudden the Dodgers are all-out reeling.  Chavez Ravine has fans in the stands but they're all thinking the same thing, "WTF?"

The Bags Under My Eyes Are Baseballs

I haven't written much today but I've caught most of the action.  I heard Judge's 39th homer (off Kevin Gausman).  I heard Brett Gardner reach four times (and swipe a bag while I was eating falafel).  For the second time this week I had John and Suzyn in my pocket telling me about Chad Green getting outs while I walked Hugo in a nearby park.  Then it was a few hours with no games and dinner at CJ Muggs.  When we got back I fired up the MLB.TV.

CarGo has just gone.  That's his ninth.  Of the month?  No, of the year.

I saw only a little of Cubs 8 - Pirates 2.  The Pirates interest me very little right now.  They were wearing their camo jerseys.  I will see them play in St Louis tomorrow night.  Trevor Williams and His Rag Tag Band are the opening act.  Luke and The Weaver Brothers are headlining.

I saw the Nationals rise up with three in the bottom of the sixth, the crucial hit off the bat of Trea Turner, taking Tanner Roark off the hook.  Then it was Kintzler, Madson, Doolittle.

I did not watch or hear any of Mets 7 - Reds 2.

I saw a fair bit of the Braves win 6-5 at home over Miami.  Inciarte stole second early on de-gloving Dee Gordon in the process.  The throw came in, Inciarte was late to the party, but the throw was upstream of the bag and pretty low:  it met Gordon's glove on the ground a moment before Inciarte slid over the glove.  Inciarte ended sitting on top of the bag holding Gordon's glove, ball and all.  Gordon was like, "I tagged him."  The umps were like, "Yeah, but...."

Lucroy singled, Pat Valaika pinch-hit singled, Blackmon singled.  This is a drubbing.  Edward Paredes allows four hits, doesn't get a run, Dave Roberts runs him off.

I didn't watch or hear any of the Indians 11 - White Sox 2.  I am aware of Kluber's 13 strikeouts.  The Indians have won fifteen straight games.

I did see Minnesota score three in the ninth against Kelvin Herrera in Kansas City en route to a 4-2 win.  Matt Belisle pitched an unremarkable ninth for the save.

I listened to Brad Hand count to three on his fingers as he loaded the bases before raining sliders down upon Luke Voit and Dexter Fowler.

On now for LA is Josh "Chavez" Ravin.  The Dodgers' lead in the NL West would still be ten games were they to lose this one.  They would have a six-game advantage over the Nationals for best record in the NL.  Ravin walks Arenado, Lucroy scores.
